Neighborhood Appreciation Party
Sponsored by Draft Carolina Burgers & Beers. Farm Dinner

The World of Tea: A Tour of Classic Origins
North Carolina native James Norwood Pratt has served the cause of tea around the world since 1980 as an instigator of interest and a teacher. There are a couple more chances this month to take free canning workshops offered by the Johnston County Cooperative Extension. The workshops will be held 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, and 1 to 3 p.m. April 28 at the campus. REMINDER: Chapel Hill's C'est si Bon! cooking school's most requested class is available again: a chocolate feast based on the Chocolat movie starring Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche.

This class may be a perfect Valentine's Day date: the class goes from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 14.

The menu includes:

  • Sauteed shrimp in a tomato and garlic sauce with chocolate and chile
  • Local hens roasted with bittersweet chocolate demi-glace
  • Roasted cauliflower with chipotle beurre nosiette
  • Cocoa-dusted chocolate cake with almonds

Learn to cook a gluten-free Thanksgiving

Gluten-free cooking instructor Jules Shepard is teaching a cooking class this Friday at Earth Fare in Brier Creek. Shepard's popular class usually sells out but there are still seats available.

The class is 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, Earth Fare at Brier Creek. Learn how to make dinner rolls, pumpkin pie, and stuffing or dressing, depending upon where you grew up. Plus, enjoy a tasting of gluten-free beer.

The class costs $40 for an individual and $70 for couples in the same household.
