Legends of Folk: The Village Scene (8pm, UNC-TV) - This PBS special looks at the folk music scene in New York's Greenwich Village during the 1960s. The Village was considered the epicenter of folk, folk rock, and singer songwriter movements, and shaped one of the most important periods in American music. Features rare performances by Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Joan Baez, John Denver, the Lovin' Spoonful, the Mamas and the Papas, Richie Havens, Judy Collins, Neil Diamond, Tim Hardin, and Peter, Paul and Mary. The Love We Make (9pm, Showtime) - This documentary chronicles Paul McCartney's poignant and cathartic journey through the streets of New York City in the aftermath of the World Trade Center's destruction, and traces the planning and performance of the star-studded benefit concert at Madison Square Garden. "The Concert for New York City" took place less than six weeks after the terrorist attacks. Includes concert performances and behind-the-scenes footage. Directed by iconic documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles and his partner Bradley Kaplan, and shot in 16mm black and white. The film documents what Showtime calls McCartney's "personal journey to help heal the city that welcomed him with open arms in 1964."

Voices from Inside the Towers (9pm, History) - An aural account of what went on inside the World Trade Center Towers on September 11 includes the recordings of victims left on message machines, accounts by survivors, and families recalling the last words of loved ones.
 
Portraits from Ground Zero (10pm, A&E) - Photographer Andrea Booher interviews people she photographed in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and asks them to recall the stories behind the images.

Beyond: Messages From 9/11 (10pm, BIO) - Family members of September 11 victims recall messages they've received from their deceased loved ones.

Paul McCartney: The Gershwin Prize for Popular Song (8pm, UNC-TV) - President Obama presents Sir Paul McCartney with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at a White House ceremony, which features performances by McCartney, Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Emmylou Harris, Corrine Bailey Rae, and others. Plus a monologue from Jerry Seinfeld.

Top Chef: Washington, DC (9pm, Bravo) - The chefs prepare a power lunch tasted by chef Art Smith, members of Congress, and also journalists Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Savannah Guthrie.

Work of Art (10pm, Bravo) - The artists break into pairs and make artwork inspired by polarizing themes, such as order and chaos. On the previews, host China Chow is crying when she announces who is going home, so I can't wait to see what that's about. I can only think of one contestant I'd be really sad to see leave... Guest judge is painter Ryan McGinniss.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Shawn and Gus try to stay objective while investigating an alleged alien abduction with an old friend.

The Beatles are long gone, but both surviving members will play (separately) in North Carolina next month. A July 28 date at Charlotte's Time Warner Cable Arena has been announced for Paul McCartney, recent recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Tickets go on sale June 12.

As for the other living Beatle, Ringo Starr will bring his All-Starr Band to the Durham Performing Arts Center on July 11.

If you're in the mood for a little musical entertainment tonight as you wallow in your carb-induced stupor, ABC has two big concert shows for you.

"Beyoncé...I Am Yours" (9pm) is a show from the Las Vegas portion of this summer's tour, and features unseen footage from the singer's life. The Vegas show was different from the rest of the tour, with Beyoncé saying she wanted to make that experience even more special for fans. 

"Paul McCartney: Good Evening New York City" is McCartney's July 2009 concert from Shea Stadium in Queens. The Beatles originally played Shea Stadium in 1965 and McCartney returned there for a hugely popular encore this summer (Shea is now Citi Field). The full concert is available on dvd and cd, and this show is an edited version. 10pm.  

VH1 is beginning a 3-week block of Beatles programming tonight, starting with the Emmy-nominated documentary series on the band, "The Beatles Anthology."

The in-depth documentary series will simulcast on VH1 and VH1 Classic tonight, Sept. 2, and Sept. 9 at 9pm. 

Then on Tuesday, Sept. 1, VH1 Classic begins "9 Days of Beatles," showing a series of classic Beatles concerts and films. It begins with a Beatles Retrospective on September 1 at 8pm, followed by the band's classic movie, "Help!" at 9pm.

So if you've tired of pre-release listening to "Chinese Democracy" at the Guns N' Roses Myspace, here's another preview: MySpace is also streaming "Electric Arguments," the latest from Paul McCartney/The Fireman. And it does sound livelier than anything he's done in a while...
