(My only question is, how late was he?)

A hard lesson

Workers and students at Duke University learned some hard lessons over the past couple of days, according to the Duke Police Log, dated yesterday.

  • Lesson 1: Don't let a co-worker have access to your big wad of cash.

Monday, 8:51 a.m. Duke South Clinics. Belated Larceny. Two employees cashed their checks on Friday the 12th at about 12:30 a.m. and placed the cash in a shared locker. One of them reported a portion of the cash placed inside the locker missing.

  • Lesson 2: If you're wanted, don't get caught because you had the munchies.

Man charged with indecent exposure at Duke Park

Robert Thomas Perry, 57, was arrested Friday on charges of indecent exposure. Two witnesses told police they saw a man exposing his penis at the park and filed a complaint.

Perry, whose address was listed as 8 Caspian Court, was released on $1,000 bail and given a court date of Oct. 28.

When contacted Sunday, Robert Clark, one of two witnesses who made the complaint, declined to comment.

Calls to Perry's residence were not returned Sunday.

Northgate Park resident charged with trafficking heroin

Arrest warrants said Carr had 64 baggies of heroin that he intended to sell, containing a total of 10 grams of the drug. Carr also was charged with trafficking the drug and having drug paraphernalia, the plastic baggies.

He was being held late Sunday at the Durham County jail in lieu of $30,000 secured bond.

From the Duke University police log this morning:

August 7, 2008

5:23 a.m.  Duke Hospital North. Larceny. A delivery person reported the theft of 4 bins of berries from the loading dock.

(Only two possibilities come to mind — it was either a bear, or someone who really likes smoothies.)

How to stay cool in the heat (and lose your job)

Maybe the heat got to this employee's head? From the Duke University Police log:

July 6, 2008

Also, at Duke Hospital North, a visitor demonstrates possibly one of the most abhorrent, not to mention dangerous, places for weapon storage:

July 3, 2008

10:02 p.m. Duke Hospital North. Weapon on campus. Security Officers at the entry screening area found a weapon in a diaper bag; the visitor was issued a state citation for same.

We heard hospital food was bad, but...
