Wilson debut doesn't move ratings needle

Football fans in the Triangle may have been talking about Russell Wilson’s Wisconsin debut last night, but they weren’t watching -- at least, not any more than usual.

According to ESPN, last night’s Wisconsin-UNLV game did a 3.7 metered market rating in the Raleigh-Durham TV market. Last year’s Thursday night opener, South Carolina against Southern Mississippi, did a 3.8.

Given the interest in Wilson locally, it's surprising there wasn't more of a bump in the ratings, but it may also be an indication of the voracious appetite for college sports in this area.

How to watch UNC in College World Series

Carolina takes on Vanderbilt in the first game of the College World Series today, and you can watch on ESPN. The game begins at 2 p.m., live from Omaha, Nebraska.

The game between Florida and Texas will start at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

If you miss the games, you can catch them both on repeat on ESPN-U. The UNC game repeats there at 10:30 p.m. and the Florida game follows at 1 a.m.

ESPN Classic becomes weekend home of acclaimed sports documentaries

Starting this Friday, ESPN Classic will make terrific use of the network's critically acclaimed '30 For 30' documentary series and become the weekend destination for fans of sports films.

For the new format's inaugural weekend, ESPN Classic will highlight -- with multiple showings throughout the weekend -- the '30 For 30' docs 'June 17th, 1994' (about how the OJ Simpson Bronco chase overshadowed a big NBA game) and 'Without Bias' (about basketball star Len Bias). Related to these docs, they will air the actual New York Knicks vs. Houston Rockets game discussed in 'June 17th, 1994,' and a University of Maryland vs. University of North Carolina game featuring Len Bias.

All-Star weekend celebrity watch: Friday update

We noted in a story yesterday that not a ton of "big time" celebrities were scheduled to show up for All-Star events in Raleigh this weekend, but that doesn't mean there won't be a few famous faces out there. Here are some of the tips we're getting:

-Michelle Beadle (left) of ESPN’s SportsNation should be in town. At least she tweeted yesterday that she was headed this way: "Heading to Raleigh for NHL Allstar fun....hoping for a headache-free travel day. And an open bar...vacay!" Keep your eyes peeled for her.

-We've heard that "Dancing with the Stars" pro Mark Ballas may be at the All-Star Skills Competition Saturday night. We do know he was in Raleigh this week for a dance workshop and a concert at the Berkeley, and he's scheduled to perform tonight at the Center Pointe Bar & Grill in Charleston, S.C.

-Also, Miss North Carolina Adrienne Core will attend the NHL All-Star 5k Saturday morning at the RBC Center. The race starts at 9am.

If you spot or hear about any other celebrities in town, shoot me an email or tweet (@WarmTV).

"Marion Jones: Press Pause": Her story told her way

There are many spectacular/sad falls in sports history, and truth be told, the story of Marion Jones may not be in the top 10.

But her public collapse did resonate, probably because she was so adamant in her denial, and she seemed so powerful in her persona. Why would she need to cheat?

But she did, although she was sent to prison not for steroid use, but for perjury. Now the Los Angeles native gets to talk about her experiences in "Marion Jones: Press Pause" (ESPN, 8 tonight) directed by Los Angeles native John Singleton (that's him in the photo).

The documentary is part of ESPN's excellent "30 for 30" series. Unfortunately, of the ones I've seen, it's one of the weaker entries.

"Boyz n the Hood" director gives Marion Jones "30 for 30" treatment

For TV viewers seeking an escape from Tuesday's mid-term election coverage, the next installment of ESPN’s “30 for 30” series will focus on the career of Marion Jones.

The former UNC track and basketball standout said the program, which is scheduled to air Tuesday at 8 p.m., was produced by John Singleton, whose movie “Boyz n the Hood” was nominated for an Oscar.

Update on Time Warner's ESPN online access

ESPN Online simulcast is now up and running. You can sign on at ESPNnetworks.com right now with your Time Warner Cable My Services log-on.

I just tested it and it works. I clicked "Watch Live" and it asked me to select my provider. I clicked on Time Warner Cable and then clicked "Watch Live" again and "Sports Center" loaded automatically. I didn't have to log-on but I was already logged on at the TWC My Services site, so maybe it just knew.

More info here.

ESPN3.com is coming shortly... I'll update when it's live.

Update (9:29am): Right now the ESPN3 site is saying to select Time Warner Cable from the drop-down list on their site but they don't have Time Warner Cable listed.

Update (9:38am): It's there! Select Time Warner Cable from the list and it takes you to TWC's My Services page. Sign in there and it automatically flips right back to ESPN3.com.

Okay, sports freaks. Go watch something.

Time Warner Cable sets date for ESPN3.com access

Just in time for Monday night's Giants vs. Cowboys showdown, Time Warner Cable customers will have free access to an ESPN online simulcast and to an exclusive new sports outlet, ESPN3.com.

Good news, bad news from Time Warner Cable

The good news is that because of the agreement reached yesterday between Time Warner Cable and Disney, Time Warner Cable customers will now have free access to live streaming games on the ESPN3.com website.

The bad news is the service may not be ready in time for tomorrow's N.C. State and Duke football games. Read more over at the biz blog
