At its meeting today, the Town Council will consider offering a $50,000 cash incentive for the unnamed company to bring 350 full-time jobs and a $5 million capital investment in "real and personal property."

Costco considering replacing Cary shopping center with its own store
Submitted by dbracken on 01/09/2012 - 17:42The retail giant Costco Wholesale Corporation is interested in replacing southwest Cary's MacGregor Village shopping center with one of its warehouse-style stores.
Town of Cary staff have confirmed that Costco submitted a "pre-application" to the town in September.
The early documents include a conceptual plan that calls for the demolition of all the 1980s-era mall's buildings except for its bank, according to Cary's staff and mayor.
If Costco followed through on its current plans, the membership-based store would build a 147,000-square-foot store and a gas station, Costco's second facility in Wake County, at the western corner of U.S. 64 and U.S. 1, near the MacGregor Downs subdivision.-

Kroger sells empty grocery store that feds eyed as an immigration facility
Submitted by johnmurawski on 12/27/2011 - 17:22Kroger has sold a former grocery store in Cary that had been under consideration for a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office near residential neighborhoods.
Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. sold the vacant store for $4.1 million to The Crown Cos., a real estate firm in Dobson. The sale was recorded on Dec. 20 by the Wake County Register of Deeds.
The feds this summer gave up on their plans to relocate their office to the Cary grocery store after a public outcry against the move. The federal General Services Administration is continuing its search for an alternate site.
Communities under consideration include Cary, Raleigh, Garner, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina and unincorporated portions of Wake County, according to a Friday update on the Town of Cary web site.

Cary's REI location to expand in former Borders space
Submitted by toristilwell on 11/11/2011 - 16:54Cary's paddling, cycling and running enthusiasts can revel in increased REI gear selection when the outdoor equipment retailer relocates to Devonshire Place shopping center from Crossroads Plaza in the spring.

REI will move into a 27,000 square foot space left vacant by Borders after the bookseller filed for bankruptcy in February.
With about 6,000 square feet in additional space at its new location, REI plans to add a new community space for more classes and presentations as well as expand product assortment in paddling, cycling and footwear, said REI spokeswoman Bethany Hawley.
Hawley said REI leadership had been looking to expand the Cary presence for some time. She could not comment on terms of the lease, which was announced on Nov .4.
The Walnut Street shopping center is operated by Brixmor Property Group. Other tenants include Dollar Tree, Golf Galaxy, Lifestyle Family Fitness and Monkey Joe's.
