The ACC officially got shorter on talent Thursday night, courtesy of the NBA draft.

Four of the league’s top forwards — Georgia Tech’s Derrick Favors (No. 3, by the New Jersey Nets), Wake Forest’s Al-Farouq Aminu (No. 8, Los Angeles Clippers), North Carolina’s Ed Davis (No. 13, Toronto Raptors) and Clemson's Trevor Booker (No. 23, traded from Minnesota to Washington)  — were all chosen in the  first round at Madison Square Garden.

In addition, 6-feet-6 Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez was chosen 28th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies -- striding out of the stands to hug commissioner David Stern.

South Atlanta High power forward Derrick Favors, the nation’s No. 1 senior prospect according to scout.com, committed to Georgia Tech over N.C. State and Georgia on Wednesday night.

Favors, who’s 6-foot-9, made the announcement live on ESPN-U.

“I like the style of play they play,” he said. “It’s close to home so friends and family can come see me play.”

Favors joins forward Kammeon Holsey and guard Mfon Udofia as GT commitments from the class of 2009.

Derrick Favors, the top-ranked high school basketball player in the country, announced Wednesday night that he will sign with Georgia Tech, according the Atlanta (Ga.) Constitution-Journal web site.

Favors is a 6-foot-9 forward with great rebounding and shot blocking ability.The South Atlanta High star choose Georgia Tech over his other two finalists, N.C. State and Georgia.

Favors and Wall watch the Wolfpack

Derrick Favors, the top-ranked basketball prospect in the country by scout.com, has N.C. State listed among the 10 schools that he is considering.

South Atlanta High coach Michael Reddick said the 6-foot-9 Favors asked that his list not be made public until the list was cut to six, but confirmed State was one of the 10.

Reddick said he couldn’t break Favors’ confidence by listing the other schools, but Scout.com lists eight of the nine as Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Memphis, UCLA, Kentucky, Florida and Kansas.
