The cost of college football

At the risk of inciting another App State Riot, here's a link to a study done by The Oregonian on ticket prices among the Bowl Championship Series teams.

The paper broke down prices by "marquee" and "ordinary" games (They provide definitions at the site). The average ACC prices are $48 for marquee and $32 for ordinary games.

Wish I were 30 years younger

How do you tell your teenage daughter that it is you, not her, that gets to meet her most favorite boy band in the universe? You don't. At least not until it's over.

I didn't have the heart to tell my daughter I had been invited to be a part of the press pool that got to ride along with the Jonas Brothers Wednesday prior to their evening concert.

We followed "the boys," as their press agent refers to them, to the Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Raleigh for a few holes of golf. It could not have been hotter or more humid Wednesday, and by the time we got back to the clubhouse I think we all needed a shower.

I must say I was impressed when the brothers - their faces all too familar from the dozens of posters in my daughter's room - stepped out of their black tinted-window vehicle. They made a beeline for the few fans who managed to get wind of their whereabouts - about four college girls from Cary. The Jonas Brothers politely said hello and stopped for photos and autographs before heading into the pro shop at the golf course.

You can read more about their day in the Triangle in next week's edition of The Cary News.

Now, if only I were 30 years younger, it may just have been one of the most memorable days of my life.
