Cary Police, Johnston County Sheriff's Department Team up to Return Hundreds of Stolen New Home Construction Goods to Builders

Bookmark and Share

CARY, NC – In collaboration with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Department, the Town of Cary is spearheading efforts to reconnect home builders with their stolen property following the confiscation of goods at 381 Gor An Farm Road in Selma, NC; the items include windows, flooring, appliances, power tools and light fixtures, to name a few.  On July 15, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the Selma residence and discovered a barn filled with new home construction goods.  The Sheriff’s Department recovered many stolen items and then contacted the Town of Cary to help identify other owners since much of the goods appear to have originated from Cary construction sites.

The Town of Cary is spearheading efforts to reunite owners with the following property:
50 appliances
25 light fixtures
203 windows
143 doors
22 tools
368 boxes of wood flooring
142 boxes of tile
17 Jacuzzi tubs
7 water heaters
21 cabinets
Miscellaneous construction items

“We’ve already been able to return numerous items to their owners,” said Lieutenant Steve Fonke. “Many of the remaining items are still in the boxes and were most likely stolen from new home construction sites, so we’re focusing our efforts on reaching out to builders who believe they have items among the stolen property.”

Officials plan to charge Clifton Ray Moore, 61, of 467 Gor An Farm Road in Selma with numerous counts of possession of stolen property based on the number of cases the Cary Police are able to match to the recovered items.  Charges have already been filed against him by the Sheriff’s Office for goods related to Johnston County thefts.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Cary worked together to move the materials to Cary with the help of TROSA, Inc., which provides full service residential and commercial moving and storage services.

“We were honored that TROSA Moving was hired to provide professional moving services for the Cary Police Department,” said President and CEO Kevin McDonald.

Builders and/or contractors believing their property may be among the stolen items are asked to call Town of Cary Police Detective Lillian Royal at (919) 462-3810.  Also, the investigation into the stolen goods is continuing, and anyone with information related to the investigation should call (919) 462-3810.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes.  If you have information, contact Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E); you may also visit http://www.carycrimestoppers.net .  All calls to Crime Stoppers are kept in complete confidence.
