Anyway, here's how I did with our teams in their conference tournaments, and I'm proud to say I got far more correct than I did incorrect:
My Home Runs: Correctly predicted Apex and Panther Creek to win Tri-Eight titles. Also predicted Cary Academy boys to finish runner up to Ravenscroft and picked the CA girls to lose in the first round to Durham Academy. Got the entire first round of the girls' Tri-Eight games right. And I knew that the Holly Springs boys didn't stand a chance against Knightdale in the first round. Also had Cary Christian boys losing in the finals to St. David's and the girls team winning their first EPIC title. Went 7-for-7 on CA and Cary Christian teams.
My Foul Tips: I didn't go out there and predict any upsets in the Tri-Eight boys tournament, but I did say "anything can happen in this tournament." I didn't have the guts to pick anything risky, but I did warn that "Lee County plays good enough defense to [beat] Middle Creek." I also had MC beating Athens, but I thought the game was to be played Thursday in the semifinals. I didn't expect both teams to be out of the playoffs and playing for a No. 2 seed on Friday afternoon.
I swung on and missed: Had Athens in the girls' Tri-Eight title game, and had Lee County going out in the first round. If I had drawn up a bracket for an office pool, Lee County would've screwed me out of the winnings. I also underestimated the Holly Springs girls. I had them losing in the second round to 3-seed East Wake. Just one problem with that — East Wake didn't make it there and Garner did. Congrats to the Golden Hawks for finishing runner-up, despite my humble prediction.
