Signing Day Q&A with Earnest Ross

Bookmark and Share

Q: What does this day mean for you? I'm sure it's a dream to play Division I basketball.

A: "Yes sir, actually it's a wonderful day for my family, my coach to get together. We've all been waiting for this moment to get together so I can sign. I feel real comfortable with my decision and I just think this is a real special moment not only for me but my family and my coach."

Q: What were some of the things that stood out about Auburn and playing in the SEC?

A: "I think what made Auburn different from all my other choices was coach Jeff Lebo, I really like him, with him playing at UNC and stuff like that. The campus, I really loved it down there, the stadium, the new things that are being brought to the campus, new things being brought to the college and they just showed me a great time when I went there on my official visit."

Q: So it was just more comfortable there, even though it was kind of far from home?

A: "Yes sir, I've got family close to there in Mississippi and Atlanta so, I feel that was a comfortable decision for me and my family."

Q: Garrius [Adams] and I talked about how he was already seeing the effects of signing with a Division I college and already having that target on your chest. Are you seeing that early on? Guys saying "that's the guy going to Auburn, I'm going to 'D' up on him?"

A: "Actually I have but you know, playing basketball, you can't ever take any days off. You've always got to play your best, you've got to play hard. I just take it like as my coach [L.J. Hepp] says, 'if you play hard you never can lose,' so I just play hard and give it my best."

Q: What are you looking for this senior season?

A: "For our team to just be the best we can be and do the things our coaches have always strived us our hardest to do. Just go out there and try to win some games."

Q: Pretty good feeling on the team about your chances? It's going to be a hard, even conference race.

A: "Oh yes. We actually have five returning players, five starters, so we all feel real comfortable. We always used to be the youngest group and now we're the oldest group going out there, we've been playing with each other for three years now. I feel comfortable with the team that we have and going out there and playing with them."
