On the Recruiting Front: Josh Davis commits to N.C. State

Josh Davis, senior, Athens Drive basketball

Athens Drive basketball coach Robert Clemons confirmed that his star center Josh Davis has accepted a scholarship offer to play for Sidney Lowe and the N.C. State Wolfpack next year.

Davis led the Tri-Eight Conference — arguably the state's toughest conference with the likes of Auburn signee Earnest Ross and Miami signee Garrius Adams playing for Panther Creek and Middle Creek respectively — in scoring with 25.1 points per game and is believed to have led it in rebounds with 10+ per game.

At the N.C.-S.C. All-Star game this past weekend, Davis earned MVP honors with 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting and 10 rebounds.

"State's been interested in Josh for awhile," Clemons said. "They just, at the time, didn't know whether or not they were going to make a commitment to him."

Clemons said State coaches had talked to Josh before the game, and then again afterwards.

"Today, they invited him and his mom over to the school and that's when he made the commitment," Clemons said.

Clemons added that some scholarships had opened up, allowing State to make their offer.

We'll have more from Davis himself tomorrow (his coach said he won't be taking any more calls since he's been swamped today), so make sure to look for that here on the SWakeSports blog.

why?

People keep asking why give this kid a scholarship. I ask, with numbers like this, why hasn't he gotten one before?
