Rob Fronk, senior, Apex football
In an e-mail from Apex football coach Bob Wolfe, it's been confirmed that wide receiver/tight end Rob Fronk will spend a year at Hargrave Military Academy.
According to Wolfe, Fronk's grades aren't in question (which is why some players are forced to go to Hargrave instead the college of their choice), but rather it'll be an opportunity to develop physically.
This past year, Fronk was one of Apex's version of the "Big Three" that included quarterback Houston Hawley (committed to Cornell) and running back Kevin Fogg (committed to Liberty).
Fronk was a first team All-Tri-Eight Conference selection after he led the conference with a staggering 1,001 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Fronk wowed crowds all year long with acrobatic catches and gave defenses nightmares with his rare combination of speed and size.
Fronk didn't garner the same kind of collegiate attention that some of his teammates did, but Hargrave, a program that doesn't lack talent in any year had been interested in seeing him prep for some time. After a year at Hargrave, Fronk will still have the full five-years-to-play-four-years worth of eligibility as those enrolling in colleges next year.
Fronk is the sixth Cougar from this year's record-breaking team (made it to the third round of the playoffs for the first time in school history) to sign up to play football next year, joining Josh Cunningham, Josh Powell, Joey Powell, Hawley and Fogg.
Cunningham is headed to Johnson C. Smith while the Powell twins will play for Campbell.
ANOTHER NOTE:
There is a chance that former Apex defensive tackle Lewis McAlister, this year's Tri-Eight Defensive Player of the Year, could make his decision soon. The last we heard, McAlister, an outstanding student-athlete in every sense of the term, could wind up at Davidson (yes, they do have a football program too) or UNC. It should be noted however, if McAlister was to go to UNC, he would have to walk-on and no roster spot would be assured.
