Leftovers from interview with Sallieu Bundu

Bookmark and Share
My one-hour interview with Carolina RailHawks forward Sallieu Bundu made for a good story, and a lot of leftover nuggets that couldn't make it into my 2,000-word story that ran in today's paper.

I've decided to post the best of the rest here on the SWakeSports blog. Enjoy:

About the WakeMed Soccer Park crowd...

"In Cleveland the crowd was not like this ... When I was in Cleveland we'd get like 5,000 and I wouldn't see it but for some players it was a big crowd for them."

More about playing in front of crowds...

"I started to play soccer at a young age in Africa soccer is popular. I'm like 12, 14 years old playing in front of 10,000. I got used to that."

"I went and played with my national team and there was over 30,000 people. That makes me more excited to see a stadium packed."

About his conditioning (which has led to his 8-pack)...

"Working out is my favorite thing. I can't stand it if I go all day and I don't do anything. I must go to the gym and do something ... If I don't do that I just don't feel good. If you want to stay fit all the time, you need to love working out, and that's my favorite thing."

"I always go for two hours. For one hour I like to work on my legs and for one hour I like to work on my lower body ... I always spy on professional trainers and say 'if I do this it will help me.'"

On his fiance coming into town this weekend, and how roommate/teammate Caleb Norkus' proposal made him jealous...

"I told Caleb I said 'I'm jealous, I said you make me jealous of you right now.' I need to do this but you already did it," Bundu said laughingly. "I should have waited like that day. It would've be big surprise for her."
