KNIGHTDALE — The Knights dismissed the Jaguars Monday night, 72-45, in a home court setting.
The home team pulled 7-2 and 14-5 leads over Athens before the Jags brought things back into perspective by the end of one, 18-13, under the supervision and steady lane hand of tall target Josh Davis.
Davis proved to be a matchup for Knightdale's Stan Okoye, who was held to just one point in the first half of the game, but it didn't take long for the Knights to nix passes in Davis' direction.
Furthermore, three-point attempts from various Jaguar shooters simply didn't drop — not one in the entire game.Knightdale's Josh Gorham paved the way to a double-digit lead in the third quarter, and the Knights would drag that out to nearly the 30-point mark over the course of the final period.
Gorham led the Knights with 21 points, followed by Dijon Manns with 14, Okoye with 13, Cam Mealy with six, Desmond Noel, Billy Simms, Eric Green and Aaron Smith with four points each, and Ron Frederick with two.
The Jaguars were led by Davis with 27 points, followed by Quentin Edmundson with eight, Grayson Eubanks and Jack Pierce with four points each and Keanan Mims with two.
With Durham-Riverside's win over Leesville Road, the Knights (21-7) will have to make the trip to Durham Wednesday to take on Riverside (20-5) in the sectional semifinals at 7 p.m.
The Jags will lose their entire starting lineup after this season as Davis, Edmonson, Eubanks, Pierce, Mims and Taylor Pardue all graduate.
The only returning members from this year's varsity who saw major minutes will be reserves Rahim Jenkins and Michael King, and that's using the word "major" very lightly.
