Hawks' nest notes: Countering the counterattack

"Counterattack goal" has been a frequent term in our stories this year when describing goals allowed by the Carolina RailHawks. When it happened a few times in a July 7 against Fort Lauderdale, a 3-3 tie, Colin Clarke voiced his displeasure.

First, he compared his team's defending to the postgame fireworks: "all over the place."

He continued: "We’ve got to read the game and understand what’s going on during the game and react to it better. You can’t run and sprint and go forward for 90 minutes at the pace we do. There are times when you’ve just got to sit and be compact and get your breather, get your rest and then go again.”

But what exactly did he mean by this?
