David Thompson has a lot of sweet basketball memories from his days at N.C. State.
What he wants now, however, is to part with some of his basetball memorabilia.
Thompson, the star of the Pack's 1974 national champions, has put several personal items up for auction. Included are a 1974 national championship ring, and the nets from the classic 1974 ACC championship game against Maryland the 1974 national title game against Marquette.
"I'm releasing my collection for my fans to enjoy some of the memorabilia I have appreciated for many years,” Thompson said in a statement. “It also allows me to do some family planning into the future. I know my fans will cherish the collection as I have for many years to come."
Thompson was a three-time All-America at N.C. State and twice was named the national player of the year. Arguably the best player in ACC history, he later starred for the Denver Nuggets in the ABA and NBA and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996.
The items, which include trophies and game-worn jerseys, will become available Nov. 14 via SCP Auctions.
