ACC players in the 2012 NFL draft: A look back at their recruiting rankings

Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly, at the ninth overall pick, was the first ACC player to be selected in the NFL draft over last weekend. Florida State offensive tackle Andrew Datko, who went 241st overall, was the last. By the time the draft ended, NFL teams selected 31 players who spent the 2011 season in the ACC.

For those 31 players, being drafted represented the culmination of a dream. It wasn’t all that long ago, though, that they began their college careers as incoming recruits hoping to find a role with their college teams. With the draft over, it's as good of a time as any to look back and examine what kind of recruits these draftees once were.

Packers worth the draft wait for Wolfpack's Manning

All's well that ends well for Terrell Manning. The former N.C. State linebacker had to wait longer than he expected to get picked on Saturday in the NFL draft, but he ended up with one of the best teams in the league.

While Manning waited, the Green Bay Packers took him with their fifth-round pick, No. 163 overall, Wake Forest had three players go off the board in the fourth round and fourth in the fifth round. The four draft picks tied the school record from 2009.

The German sneaker company had a previous deal with the football and men's basketball teams but the new deal will cover all 23 teams in the athletic department, which ends up saving the school between $900,000 and $1 million a year from its previous deals with a variety of shoe and apparel companies.

Defense leads Black to 32-7 win Kay Yow Spring Game

RALEIGH — There were the usual highlights for N.C. State in the Kay Yow Spring Game on Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Mike Glennon made some nice throws and David Amerson had a sweet interception — off Glennon. History will note the Black team beat the White, 32-7 in front of a crowd of 24,797. More importantly, the game raised more than $26,000 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

UPDATED: 2:22 P.M. WITH COMMENTS FROM LESLIE.

RALEIGH -- C.J. Leslie knew what his return would mean to N.C. State. It’s exactly why he’s coming back.

The forward announced today he will return for his junior season, passing on the NBA Draft and setting up the Wolfpack as perhaps the team to beat in the ACC next season, after advancing to the Round of 16 in March.

“I just figured we started a good thing last year,” Leslie said. “We might as well finish it.”
