If you head out to the fair for today’s opening half day, you’ll have a chance to pick a new name for the largest roller coaster on the midway.
The Pinfarri RC-48 is one of the largest portable roller coasters in the world, but apparently Pinfarri RC-48 doesn’t carry the same cache as “Vortex” or “Avalanche.”
So from the time the gates open at 3 p.m. until 11 p.m., Powers Great American Midways will accept your ideas for naming their baby. The company will announce the new name on Friday, and the winner will get a prize pack that includes five admission tickets, T-shirts and ride books, plus that feeling the comes with picking the best coaster name.
So take a look at the Pinfarri RC-48 and perhaps take a spin, then submit your name for the coaster at the guest relations booth, near the Commercial and Education Building in Kiddieland.

NC STATE FAIR UNETHICAL POLICE
Fri, 10/17/2008 - 08:51 — Anonymous (not verified)Worst experience ever! Upon arriving at the state fair last night (the first day of the Fair 16th). I pulled into parking space and specifically asked officer if it was okay to park in this spot: he acknowlodged myself and fiance and said "yes, it is perfectly fine". Well to say the least it wasn't! We arrived there at 945pm got to the admission gate at 10:02pm. Only to be turned around, becuase no admission after 10:00pm. Strict rules! Even asked for supervisor and was stilled turned around! According to their clock it was 10:02. Well on the way back to our vehicle, I saw the Officer and Tow truck driver carring on a conversation that seemed amusing, (they were laughing and giggling). I than noticed my car had dissappeared! Our vehicle was towed, less than 30 minutes had elapsed. I confronted the officer and told him this is unethical to lie to citizens that pay your salary! He could care less. I asked for supervisor and he said he was the supervisor! Well, I spent 195 dollars at a fair I didn't even attend. The tow truck driver said he had towed many vehicles from the exact same spot all night and day. Well if the officer had a sheet of paper with the tow truck driver and the vehicle ID than why did he tell me it was fine to park there? I don't understand why our government employees individuals with authority only to abuse it and take advantage of it. Was he getting kick backs from the tow company under the table? Probably! Be aware when you attend the fair! It is lining the pockets of state officials, even with the economy and financial structure the way it is. This particular officer has no morals or values! They want pay increases obviously by not getting them, they resort to other methods of pay increases.
