WRAL changing sports anchors

Longtime WRAL television sports anchor Tom Suiter is leaving that role, with Jeff Gravley replacing him. Gravley has done sports on the local station's late newscasts.

Suiter, who arrived at WRAL in 1971, will work his last 6 p.m. broadcast on Dec. 18, the station says, although he will continue to anchor the "Football Friday" high school coverage and "Extra Effort Award" pieces.

Suiter, who grew up in Rocky Mount, began his WRAL career with an interview with then-UCLA basketball coach John Wooden. His honors include induction into The National
Academy of Arts and Sciences' Silver Circle, and he was recognized in the
late 1980s as one of the top three local sportscasters in the country.

Tom Suiter is the reason I

Tom Suiter is the reason I started watching WTVD when I moved here 16 years ago. I suffered through Warner Wolf in New York when I was a teenager and Suiter reminded me too much of him.

Good riddance

Please, everyone. How can he be any good when he barely mentions the Hurricanes and has never once step foot in the RBC Center for a hockey game?

Best ever

I've been all across the country and have seen countless local sports anchors, but Tom Suiter is without a doubt the best I have ever seen. As a newspaper reporter, TV anchors don't often have respect from us. But Tom Suiter is as respected as any journalist I have ever been around. Good guys often don't get enough recognition, but Tom Suiter is both a tremendously nice guy as well as a tremendously talented anchor. He will certainly be missed as a sports anchor.

Say it "aint" so Tom!!!!!

You are "DA MAN!!!!"
