What's next in TWC-MASN dispute?

Bookmark and Share

Federal Communications Commission Mary Diamond says Time Warner Cable has 30 days to appeal a ruling in the MASN case to the full, five-member commission. But Diamond couldn't say how long the appeal would take once it is filed.

TWC is continuing its fight despite FCC Media Bureau Chief Monica Shah Desai's order on Thursday that the cable TV company put MASN on a standard analog tier within 30 days. The FCC official backed two previous rulings by arbitrators that Time Warner has unlawfully discriminated against MASN, which carries the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals.

Time Warner Cable Lies

I moved here from the Boston area four years ago and didn't know at the time about the MASN/TWC dispute or that Direct TV carried MASN. It is so frustrating that TWC blocks me from seeing my beloved Red Sox play the Orioles. Last year one of our young pitchers pitched a no-hitter against the Orioles and I missed the whole thing. I've complained numerous times and TWC reps have given me ridiculous reasons for the snafu. They claimed the real culprits were Major League Baseball, or ESPN or even my beloved New England Sports Network! Nonsense! It all boils down to moneyl. TWC wants to put MASN on its very pricey MLB Extra Innings package, not the standard tier, to make more money. I wish the FCC would slap their hands with a heavy fine for their mean-spirited delays in making MASN available to viewers like me.

I grew up a Braves fan..

because of the Durham Bulls. I've stayed a Braves fan because of allegiance. For some reason, I've started keeping up with the Royals. Why don't TWC give me Fox Midwest or whatever it would be? You can't please everyone, so what do you do? I'm sure those who love the Orioles and whoever else is on that channel would disagree. I'll have to admit, I don't know the answer.

I Care!!!

There are lots of people who don't look at it the way you do, and lots of Orioles fans. Not to mention a lot of other regional sports teams like UNCW and ECU that would get more air time. We are midway between Atlanta and Washington markets, and I'll bet a lot of folks would like to see more from Washington and Baltimore (Redskins fans, are you there?).

I just don't get TWC. Why can't they just put it on the air, there are plenty of open channels on basic tier. Get over it, TWC!!

I'm reminded of the movie Gettysburg, where General Longstreet sadly notes 'we'd rather fight a war than admit we were wrong.'

C'mon TWC - let us see our regional baseball team!

Who Cares

Can someone make MASN go back up North where they belong and make MLB realize that this is not a Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals but as much as I hate to say it an Atalanta Braves market. The whole ideal that most of the people in this area even care or want to pay more money on our cable bills to watch MASN is dumb because most of us don't. I wish MASN would just stay up NORTH where it belongs or just let the cable company add it to some package where I don't have to pay for it!

Your ignorant!!!!!

Most people DO care about MASN. Its not only about baseball!!! Its about the regional colleges that get much play on MASN! Graduates from these colleges are spread throughout NC & would love to have access to thier games! That being said, it WILL NOT cost you more money to get it & even if it did you wouldnt HAVE TOO! Im an actually in the process of moving to RTP from Wilmington & will be going with Direct TV when i get into my new home,,, MASN is one of the many reasons TWC will not get my business!
