Raleigh tree lighting on national news

Bookmark and Share

The lighting of Raleigh's Christmas tree will be featured on national news tonight, even though it took place more than a week ago.

Look for the tree to make a cameo during the close of ABC World News with Diane Sawyer (That means just before 7 p.m., for those unfamiliar with broadcast news schedules).

The network reached out to local affiliates asking for tree lighting footage, and WTVD in Raleigh was happy to oblige, city officials said in an announcement sent to us just a few minutes ago.

The tree lighting served as a kickoff for Winterfest, a two-month salute to the season featuring an outdoor skating rink and all kinds of wintertime attractions.

The rink closed for a few days last week during unseasonably warm weather, but is now back and ready for action. Skating is available six days a week except for Mondays, when the rink is closed for private bookings.
