Bring a donation, skate for free at downtown Raleigh ice rink

Bookmark and Share

Want to hit the ice at the Raleigh Winterfest outdoor skating rink, but without shelling out for the $8 admission? Here's your chance.

You can skate for free Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. if you donate a canned good, toy, gently used or new jacket, blanket, scarf or winter hat. It's part of the second annual Christmas toy drive sponsored by the Downtown Raleigh Ambassadors.

All donations go to charities based in downtown Raleigh.

In addition to free admission, Polar Ice House will have instructors on the ice from 5 to 7 p.m. to help parents and children learn the finer points of skating.

There will also be Christmas performances by RazzaMaJazz Dixieland Band, the Carpe Diem Saxophone Quartet, Outside Soul and other musical surprises. And to stick with the giving theme, there will be prize giveaways throughout the day.

The Downtown Raleigh Ambassadors clean the streets and provide safety and hospitality services to make downtown feel safe and hospitable.

Winterfest continues through the end of January.
