Wake Forest-Rolesville, which finished 12-1 in 2007, is the area football team to beat this year.
Coach Earl Smith returns nine starters on offense and six on defense.
Among the outstanding veterans are offensive tackle Taylor Hansen, a 6-foot-t-4, 300-pounder who can bench press 370 pounds, and quarterback Tim Hartman (6-0, 175), who runs a 4.6 40 and is excellent in directing the Cougar attack.
Other players to keep an eye on are defensive ends Keaton Epps (6-4, 230) and Jacob Kahut (6-5, 220), wide receiver Torrey White (5-8, 145), runner Brexton Young (5-10, 180), cornerback Logan Welsh (5-9, 160) and back Trea Jones (5-11, 187).
Wake Forest has a big non-conference game on Sept. 5 at Southern Durham, which is the Piedmont Athletic 4-A favorite and a club that could be playing for a state championship in December.
The Cougars' Cap 7 appears to be loaded. Millbrook, which reached the state quarterfinals, returns to bulk of its offense and Leesville Road has veterans from a club that played in the state 4-AA semifinals.
