New Wake Forest University basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik received his first commitment this week when junior Chase Fischer of Ripley, W.Va. announced for the Deacons.
Fisher, a 6-foot-4 guard, led West Virginia in scoring with more than 33 points per game. His single game low was 25 points.
“His best attributes are his mental toughness and his passing,” said 37-year coaching veteran Craig Harmon. “He doesn’t shoot that much. I wish he would shoot more.”
Harmon said Fischer had the best attitude and work ethic he had ever seen.
“He is the most humble and hardest-working player I've ever had," Harmon said. "He’s just fun to watch. He has gone up against the best players in the country in AAU tournaments and such and has been outstanding. He is just a great all-around player. He hit about 100 threes last year and can really drive and penetrate.”
Fischer was runner-up for player of the year in West Virginia this year, Harmon said.
