Brian Taylor, The News & Observer's 2009-10 male high school athlete of the year, will report to football practice at Harnett Central on Monday.
Taylor rushed for more than 1,000 yards and passed for more than 2,000 last year while leading Central to a 15-1 record and the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A championship game.
Central football and baseball coach Marc Morris resigned earlier this year and the rumor mill has been twirling, linking Taylor with Fayetteville Britt and Lee County.
His mother said Friday that she is amazed by the rumors and that Taylor will spend his senior year at Central.
Taylor was out of town.
Several colleges, including N.C. State, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Clemson, have shown interest in recruiting him.
