Tar Heels are looking at Hoggard point guard

Bookmark and Share

The University of North Carolina is increasing its recruiting interest in senior point guard Stillman White of Wilmington Hoggard.

Hoggard coach Brett Queenn said there is lot of mutual interest between White and the Tar Heels.

“I don’t think his recruiting is going to drag out until May, but this is happening pretty quickly,” Queen said. “The decision doesn’t have to be made overnight.”

White, who is a Mormon, had planned to take a two-year church-sponsored mission trip after graduating from Hoggard, but may enroll at UNC and play a year before going on his mission.

“Carolina needs some depth at point guard for next year,” Queen said. “This will be part of Stillman’s decision.”

If he decides on UNC, White probably would play next season, leave for his mission and then return to Carolina.

Stillman, who is 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals.
