CHAPEL HILL — By Ian Bosley’s standards Bosley, 18 carries for 192 yards and three touchdowns was, ummm, okay, but it was more than enough to lead undefeated South Granville in a 34-0 shutout of East Chapel Hill.
"I felt good," Bosley said. "But it was better after halftime. We picked it up some after halftime."
South Granville (5-0) led just 7-0 at halftime on a Bolsey’s nine-yard TD run in the second quarter. Bosley scored three plays into the second half on a 61-yard run and then dashed off a 32-yard run on the Vikings’ next play from scrimmage to set up quarterback Tony Byrd’s six-yard scramble for a TD and a 20-0 lead.
Byrd completed five of 11 passes for South Granville for 63 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Seydric Hester caught Byrd’s 20-yard pass for the game’s last TD, and Byrd ran in a two-point conversion for the final score.
Bosley, who rushed for 136 yards in the second half on just four carries, now has 935 yards on 97 carries this season. In just two games, including a 269-yard, four-TD effort earlier this year, he ran for more yards than Byrd has passing (422) in five games.
"And we’re passing more than I’ve like in the pass," South Granville coach Mike Hobgood said. "I like to give the ball a lot to the tailback, and Ian is a good tailback to give it to."
The Vikings held East Chapel Hill to just 82 yards total offense, 36 rushing.
