Sanderson coach Tony Lewis said the key to the Spartans' improvement on 2009's 2-9 record would be avoiding injuries and reducing mistakes.
"It sounds like a cliche," Lewis said, "but is true. If we can stay healthy and avoid mental mistakes, many of which lead to turnovers, we can be more successful.
"I'm excited about our potential."
Center Johnny Pujals (6-3, 285) is the anchor of the offensive line. Junior J. R. Soto has big play potential at safety or receiver.
A key addition is kicker Zach Powell. He has been impressive on the summer camp circuit and Lewis said Powell has potential to make a 50-yard field goal.
"I think we have a group of guys who are committed," said Lewis, who also is the Spartans athletics director. "I know they are working to get better."
