Sanderson end switches from UNC to N.C. State

Bookmark and Share

Sanderson High football defensive end Desmond Owino has switched his college choice from the University of North Carolina to N.C. State.

"Desmond had some questions after the coaching change at North Carolina," said Sanderson football coach Tony Lewis. "He said he wanted to look at some other options and visited N.C. State.

"He decided that's where he wants to go to school. There is nothing negative about Carolina, he just decided he liked State better."

The fast 6-foot-5, 235-pound Owino had never played football before last fall. He came to the United States last spring from Kenya, where is played rugby. Sanderson coach Tony Lewis encouraged Owino to play football last season.

Owino quickly caught the attention of college coaches throughout the southeastern United States. The recruiting process was new to him and he said it was overwhelming at times.

smart decision

after considering the fact that UNC football is boring and lame, and the upcoming bowl ban and embarrassing sanctions and academic cheating by the UNC football program,,,,, plus the desire to be on a winning program that has defeated its rival for five straight years..., Desmond made the right decision,,  go Wolfpack!!

As a UNC fan, you certainly

As a UNC fan, you certainly don't want to lose a recruit to State. What is a bit funny about all this though.....is that only after all these problems is it appealing for a football player to go to NC State over UNC.

But why would NC State want a kid who was heading to UNC? I thought UNC only recruited kids with low character and that NC State players don't act like that

Never enrolled

He has never enrolled at eweNc and had time for the stink to rub off on him. Don't worry he will be fine!!

looks like larry fedora is

looks like larry fedora is going to play that second fiddle just fine

Welcome to the Pack

I had read that while he liked UNC just fine, he was concerned about the penalties the NCAA is going to hand down.  Playing time wise, State is a better fit anyway.

Good choice, Desmond

Good choice, Desmond !

Welcome to the Pack !!! Glad to add another Cap 8 star (and fellow Spartan alum) to the team ;-)
