Holly Springs pitcher Carlos Rodon has been selected as the 2011 N.C. Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year.
The left-hander, who throws consistently in the 90s, helped lead Holly Springs to its first-ever NCHSAA 4-A state baseball title with a sweep of Asheville Roberson in the championship series. He was voted the series' MVP. The Golden Hawks closed out the season at 27-2 and won their last 21 contests.
Rodon was 11-0 on the season with 135 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.40. He finished his career with a 23-2 mark. At the plate last season, he batted .375 with one home run and 22 RBI.
Rodon, who has verbally committed to N.C. State, was taken in the 16th round of June's Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He has until Aug. 15 to sign with the club or continue his amateur career with the Wolfpack.
