Ravenscroft senior tennis player Genny Francis announced today her commitment to play for Washington and Lee University.

Francis was one the main reason Ravenscroft girls tennis team won the 2008 NCISAA 3-A state championship and to a second place finish in 2009. She finished the 2008 season with a perfect singles record of 20-0 at the No. 4 player. Last season Francis qualified in both singles and doubles for the USTA National Championships.

“Genny has been on the varsity team for five years and her growth, with her tennis skills and her leadership skills, has been exponential,” coach Debbie Peek said. “Her climb to success is based on her determination and confidence that she always has a chance to win. She is very disciplined in her practice both during the tennis season and in the offseason, which definitely shows in her performance on the court. I know she will be a terrific addition to the Washington and Lee tennis program.”

Francis was named to the honorable mention All-Conference team in 2007, and has been a All-Conference player in 2008, 2009, and 2010. She was also named team MVP in 2008 and 2010. She ended last season ranked No. 17 in North Carolina in the USTA Girls’ 18 and under division, and has been ranked among the top-100 in the South region in her age group.

Francis is a member of the National Honor Society, and received commendation in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship program.
