Ravenscroft boys advance to semifinals

The #2 seeded Ravenscroft Varsity Boys Basketball team moved into the NCISAA 3-A State Championship semifinals with a 59-36 victory over #7 Wesleyan Christian Academy on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Charlotte Country Day.

After the Ravens took a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, WCA (15-12) went on a 10-0 run to open the second period and push ahead 22-13. The Ravens quickly closed the gap and McDonald's All-American Ryan Kelly finished the half with a dunk to give his team a 28-26 lead at halftime.

Ravenscroft played stifling defense in the third quarter, holding WCA to just 2 points and building a 47-28 lead entering the final period. Wesleyan scored only 10 points total in the second half.

Kelly led all scorers with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Ravenscroft All-Conference picks Luke Davis (10 points, 8 assists) and Matt Wilson (16 points, 8 rebounds) were also in double figures in scoring. Senior guard Hampton Story dished out eight assists for the Ravens.

WCA's leading scorer was James Robbins with 17 points.

Ravenscroft (27-6) will play in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 27 at 8:30 p.m. at Charlotte Country Day against the winner of the #6 Forsyth Country Day vs. #3 Greensboro Day quarterfinal matchup.

This is the Ravens' first appearance in the state tournament semifinals since they advanced to the finals in 2005.
