The North Carolina High School Athletic Association reports that it has received documentation that Chapel Hill High School coach Sherry Norris is a new leader in the state of North Carolina in career volleyball victories.
Norris, who has coached at Chapel Hill High School for 35 years, now had 704 victories after a win on Monday night over Southern Vance. She currently sports an overall record of 704-246.
Her career mark eclipsed that of Jan Stanley, the long-time coach at West Henderson, who had been the state's all-teader 698 wins against just 115 losses during her career of 35 years.
The NCHSAA publishes lists of winning coaches in various sports, based on what schools have submitted in the Association school data base, but this information had not been submitted before.
Norris has also coached women's basketball 35 years and has compiled a mark of 471-373 in that sport, giving her close to 1200 varsity victories in those two sports combined. The Chapel Hill women's basketball team was 27-3 a year ago.
