The search committee to find the successor of Charlie Adams as the executive director of the N.C. High School Athletic Association has trimmed its list to six candidates, according to Brick Oettinger, the chairman of the committee.
Those six candidates are expected to be interviewed by the eight-person committee on Aug. 11.
The committee will later submit a list of three candidates to Norm Loewenthal, the director of the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education. The top three candidates will be ranked in order and the committee will attach the reasons for their recommendations.
Loewenthal will make the final decision.
Adams has been the NCHSAA executive director since 1984. He is resigning in January.
"We have a very talented group of applicants," Oettinger said. "The committee has been impressed with the quality and abilities of the applicants."
