           CHAPEL HILL--  Wachovia Bank, N.A., along with the North Carolina
High School Athletic Association, today announced the standings for fall
sports in the Wachovia Cup competitions for the 2008-2009 sports season.
            The Wachovia Cup award, sponsored by Wachovia and the NCHSAA,
recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic
athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive
classifications. Wachovia has sponsored the conference awards program since
1980.
            The Wachovia Conference Cup—formerly known as the Wachovia
Trophy—is a companion to the Wachovia Cup, a statewide award give to schools
with the best overall interscholastic athletic performance in each of the
four classifications.
            In most conferences, points are awarded based on participation
and standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method
of awarding points. Conferences are listed alphabetically by classification.

Class 1-A Conference Results
Atlantic 1-A: Williamston leads the conference after capturing championships
in football and volleyball. The runner-up in volleyball, Southside, is
currently in second place. Conference Standings: Williamston 18, Southside
15, Roanoke 14, Northside 13.

Albemarle 1-A: Manteo is the conference leader at the end of the fall with
top finishes in volleyball and soccer, as well as a third-place finish in
football. Camden is a close second after taking the league championship in
football and placing second in soccer and volleyball. Conference Standings:
Manteo 23, Camden 19, Perquimans 14, Plymouth 10.

Carolina 1-A: Conference championships in volleyball, football, and women’s
tennis have North Johnston at the top of the league after fall sports. In
second place is Spring Creek after taking titles in men’s soccer and women’s
tennis. Conference Standings: North Johnston 19.5, Spring Creek 16,
Princeton 12, Ayden Grifton 12, Rosewood 9.5, North Duplin 7.

Coastal Plains 1-A: Topsail is in first place after capturing league crowns
in men’s and women’s cross country, women’s tennis, women’s golf,
volleyball, and men’s soccer. East Carteret is in second place. Conference
Standings: Topsail 380, Dixon 317.5, East Carteret 297.5, Lejeune 215, Jones
125, Pamlico County 120.

Northwest 1-A: Thanks to first place finishes in women’s cross country and
men’s soccer, in addition to a second place finish in men’s cross country,
Bishop McGuinness holds the lead. East Wilkes is close behind in second with
a championship in women’s tennis and a second place finish in women’s cross
country.  Conference Standings: Bishop McGuinness 37, East Wilkes 36, Mount
Airy 35, South Stokes 34, West Wilkes 31, East Surry 25, North Stokes 24.5,
Alleghany 21.5, Elkin 20.

Smoky Mountain 1-A: Championships in football and men’s cross country
propelled Murphy to the top of the conference standings. Swain and
Hayesville are in a tie for second place. Swain took the championship in
volleyball and finished third in men’s soccer while Hayesville was the
runner-up in both cross country offerings and men ‘s soccer. Conference
standings:  Murphy 64, Swain 61, Hayesville 61, Robbinsville 50, Andrews 25,
Highlands 24, Rosman 18, Blue Ridge 17, Cherokee 17, Hiwassee Dam 9,
Nantahala 7.

Super Six 1-A: James Kenan leads the way after first place finishes in
football and men’s soccer. Midway is in second place in the league thanks to
conference titles in Volleyball and a second place finish in Football.
Hobbton is in third place after finishing as the runner-up in men’s soccer.
Conference Standings: James Kenan 15, Midway 14, Hobbton 10, Union 10,
Lakewood 9, Wallace-Rose Hill 2.

Tar Roanoke 1-A: Louisburg captured league championships in football and
volleyball and was second in men’s cross country to hold the top spot.
Gates, the league champ in men’s cross country and second in volleyball,
occupies second place. Conference Standings: Louisburg 170, Gates County
145, Northampton-East 135, Weldon 120,  North Edgecombe and Southeast
Halifax 105 each, Northampton-West 90.

Yadkin Valley 1-A: League titles in men’s soccer and cross country have East
Montgomery atop the conference standings at the end of the fall.
Jordan-Matthews is the runner-up after taking the conference crown in men’s
tennis. Conference Standings: East Montgomery 61, Jordan-Matthews 56,
Chatham Central 54, South Davidson 52, West Montgomery 47, North Moore 46,
Thomasville 37.

Tideland Athletic 1-A: Cape Hatteras edged out Jamesville for first place in
the conference after ending the fall season tied for first in volleyball and
tied for second place in football. Creswell is in third place thanks to a
championship in football. Conference Standings: Cape Hatteras 14, Jamesville
12, Creswell 8, Bear Grass 7, Columbia 6, Mattamuskeet 6, Ocracoke 0.

Class 1-A/2-A Conference Results
Mid-State 1-A/2-A: Cardinal Gibbons is the early leader in the conference
race after taking league titles in women’s cross country, volleyball, men’s
soccer, and women’s tennis. Orange is not far behind thanks to first-place
finishes in football and men’s cross country, as well as a second-place
finish in women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Cardinal Gibbons 55,
Orange 42.5, Northwood 39.5, Cedar Ridge 38.5, Carrboro 37, North Carolina
School of Science and Math 35, Raleigh Charter 23, Durham School of the Arts

Rocky River 1-A/2-A: West Stanly secures the top spot in the conference,
thanks to a championship in men’s cross country and a second place finish in
women’s cross country. North Stanly is in second place on the strength of a
women’s tennis title. Gray Stone Day rounds out the top three after taking
the crown in men’s cross country. Conference Standings: West Stanly 42.5,
North Stanly 39, Gray Stone Day 38, Mt. Pleasant 37.5, Albemarle 37.5, South

Southeastern 1-A/2-A: Fairmont and West Bladen finished the season in a
deadlock for first place. Fairmont won championships in women’s tennis and
volleyball, and West Bladen was the runner-up in women’s tennis and
football. St. Paul’s is not far behind thanks to a second place finish in
volleyball and a third place finish in men’s cross country. Conference
Standings: Fairmont 16, West Bladen 16, St. Paul’s 13.5, East Bladen 13.5,
West Columbus 11, Red Springs 9, South Robeson 7.

Southern Piedmont 1-A/2-A: East Lincoln is the early conference leader at
the end of the fall after winning championships in football, women’s cross
country, and women’s Golf. North Lincoln is the runner-up in the league
while Lincolnton is just behind North in third place after capturing the
crown in men’s cross country. Conference Standings: East Lincoln 88, North
Lincoln 78, Lincolnton 73, West Lincoln 64, South Iredell 63, Draughn 58,
Highland Tech 57, Cherryville 40, Bessemer City 37.

Waccamaw 1-A/2-A:  South Brunswick leads the conference at the end of the
fall on the strength of a championship in women’s tennis, a first place tie
in volleyball, and a tie for second in football. Pender enjoyed a solid fall
of its own, resulting in a league title in men’s soccer and a tie for first
in volleyball. Conference Standings: South Brunswick 44.5, Pender 40.5,
South Columbus 34, North Brunswick 26, Whiteville 25.5, Heide Trask 22, East
Columbus 14.5.

Western Highlands 1-A/2-A: A strong fall season for Hendersonville resulted
in league championships in football, women’s cross country, and a tie for
first in men’s soccer. Polk Country is the runner-up in the conference with
a title in volleyball and a tie for first in men’s soccer. Owen is close
behind in third place with conference crowns in men’s cross country and
women’s golf. Conference Standings: Hendersonville 74.5, Polk County 70.5,
Charles D. Owen 70, Mountain Heritage 68, Avery County 48, Madison 40,
Mitchell 32.

Class 2-A Conference Results
Central Carolina 2-A: Conference crowns in volleyball and football propelled
West Davidson to the top spot in the league. Salisbury is in second place
after championships in men’s soccer, women’s tennis, and cross country.
Conference Standings: West Davidson 50, Salisbury 47, Central Davidson 42,
Ledford 41.5, East Davidson 38.5, Providence Grove 28.5, Lexington 28, North
Rowan 21.5.

Eastern Central 2-A: Croatan finished the fall in first place, thanks to
titles in women’s tennis and women’s cross country. East Duplin is right on
their heels in second place with two first place finishes of their own in
women’s tennis and volleyball. Swansboro is close behind in third place,
paced by conference championships in men’s soccer and men’s cross country.
Conference Standings: Croatan 66, East Duplin 65, Swansboro 63.5, Clinton
55, Richlands 54, Northside 44, South Lenoir 42.5, Southwest Onslow 40.

Eastern Plains 2-A: Tarboro is the early leader in the league with top
finishes in football, men’s soccer, and women’s cross country. North Pitt
and Greene Central finished the fall in a tie for second place. North Pitt
swept league titles in cheerleading and men’s cross country while Greene
Central took first place in women’s tennis. Conference Standings: Tarboro
26, North Pitt 21 and Greene Central 21 each, Farmville Central 21, North
Lenoir 19, Goldsboro 10.

Mountain Valley 2-A: Wilkes Central is the leader in the conference with
championships in men’s cross country and second place finishes in Women’s
cross country and men’s soccer. Starmount and Forbush are tied for second
place. Starmount took league crowns in football and volleyball while Forbush
captured conference championships in men’s soccer and women’s cross country.
Conference Standings: Wilkes Central 72, Starmount 71, Forbush 71, Ashe
County 70, North Surry 62, Surry Central 59, North Wilkes 47.

North State 2-A: Conference championships in men’s soccer, men’s and women’s
cross country, and a tie for second place in football secure the top spot in
the league for West Stokes. Eastern Guilford and Reidsville are in a two-way
tie for second place at the end of the fall. Eastern Guilford placed second
in men’s cross country and third in women’s cross country. Reidsville won
the league crown in football and was the runner-up in women’s cross country,
women’s tennis, and men’s soccer. Conference Standings: West Stokes 60,
Eastern Guilford 48, Reidsville 48, Southern Guilford 44, McMichael 39,
Atkins 19.

Northern Carolina 2-A: Championships in football, volleyball, and men’s
cross country and a third place finish in men’s soccer have Bunn atop the
conference. Franklinton is not far behind in second place, with a league
crown in men’s soccer and a tie for second place in football. Conference
Standings: Bunn 46, Franklinton 40, Roanoke Rapids 38, Southern Vance 36,
Warren County 31, Granville Central 26.5, Northwest Halifax 16.5.

Western Athletic 2-A: West Henderson is the class of the conference thanks
to championships in men’s soccer, volleyball, and men’s and women’s cross
country. Brevard is the runner-up in the league with a top finish in women’s
tennis. Conference Standings: West Henderson 275, Brevard 250, North
Henderson 230, East Henderson 225, Smoky Mountain 190, Pisgah 190.

Class 2-A/3-A Conference Results
Catawba Valley 2-A/3-A: An outstanding fall for Hickory has the Red
Tornadoes in first place after winning conference crowns in women’s cross
country, women’s tennis, men’s soccer, as well as a second place finish in
volleyball. Fred T. Foard is in second in the conference with top finishes
in men’s cross country and volleyball. Conference Standings: Hickory 83,
Fred T. Foard 78.5, St. Stephens 74.5, Newton-Conover 71, Hibriten 59.5,
Patton 59, Maiden 56.5, Bunker Hill 53.5, Bandys 52, West Caldwell 41.5.

Northeastern Coastal 2-A/3-A: First Flight is the leader in the conference
after fall championships in volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s
cross country, as well as a second place finish in women’s tennis. Elizabeth
City Northeastern is in second place with a conference title in football and
a second place finish in volleyball. Edenton Holmes is in third place after
capturing the league crown in women’s tennis. Conference Standings: First
Flight 38, Northeastern 32, Edenton Holmes 29, Currituck 27, Hertford County
17, Pasquotank 14, Bertie 13.

Southwestern 2-A/3-A: Conference championships in men’s soccer, women’s
cross country, and women’s tennis have Shelby in first place at the end of
the fall. R-S Central is in second place, having taken the men’s cross
country crown and finishing second in volleyball and men’s soccer.
Conference Standings: Shelby 31, R-S Central 28, East Rutherford 21, Kings
Mountain 20, Chase 13, Burns 12.

Class 3-A Conference Results
Cape Fear Valley 3-A: Triton is the fall leader in the conference standings,
having taken league titles in women’s cross country, men’s soccer, and
volleyball. Union Pines is a close second after top finishes in men’s cross
country and women’s tennis. Harnett Central is in third place after a
championship in football and a third place spot in men’s cross country.
Conference Standings: Triton 70, Union Pines 64, Harnett Central 62, Western
Harnett 55, Gray’s Creek 54, South Johnston 47, Overhills 47, Southern Lee
44.

Eastern Carolina 3-A: Hunt is in first place in the conference, thanks to a
conference title in men’s cross country and first place ties in both men’s
soccer and volleyball. Eastern Wayne is in second, with league crowns in
women’s cross country and women’s tennis. Southern Wayne is close behind in
third place with a championship in women’s golf and a third place showing in
men’s cross country. Conference Standings: Hunt 69, Eastern Wayne 65,
Southern Wayne 57, Beddingfield 56.5, C.B. Aycock 56, Kinston 29.5.

Mid-Piedmont 3-A: Ragsdale is the conference leader on after sweeping league
championships in men’s cross country, football, women’s golf, and men’s
soccer. Southeast Guilford is in second place, having won titles in women’s
cross country and women’s tennis. Conference Standings: Ragsdale 85.5,
Southeast Guilford 76, Asheboro 75, Eastern Randolph 64, Trinity 60.5,
Southwestern Randolph 59, Randleman 47.

Mid-State 3-A: Eastern Alamance is out in front with championships in men’s
cross country and a first place tie in football. Williams is in second place
in the conference on the strength of league titles in men’s soccer, women’s
tennis, and women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Eastern Alamance
34, Williams 31.5, Southern Alamance 27, J.F. Webb 26.5, Northern Vance

Mountain Athletic 3-A: T.C. Roberson is in first place after an excellent
fall season that included championships in women’s cross country, women’s
golf, women’s tennis, and men’s soccer. Asheville is not far behind in
second place with league titles in football, men’s cross country, and men’s
soccer. Conference Standings: T.C. Roberson 81, Asheville 78, North Buncombe
66, Enka 49, Tuscola 43, Franklin 41, Clyde Erwin 32.

New Six 3-A: Fike is the fall conference leader with top finishes in women’s
tennis and women’s golf. Rocky Mount is in second place with two league
championships of its own in football and women’s cross country. Nash Central
is in third place after winning the men’s cross country crown. Conference
Standings: Fike 64, Rocky Mount 60.5, Nash Central 58, Northern Nash 55.5,
Southern Nash 43, SouthWest Edgecombe 30.

Northern Piedmont 3-A: Conference championships in men’s soccer, women’s
tennis, and a tie for first place in women’s golf have Lake Norman in the
top spot in the league at the end of the fall. Mooresville is a close second
with titles in men’s cross country and football. Statesville won a
championship of its own in football and tied for first in women’s golf,
securing third place overall. Conference Standings: Lake Norman 310,

Piedmont Triad 3-A: Reagan is currently the class of the conference thanks
to championships in volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country.
Southwest Guilford is a close second after taking titles in both men’s
soccer and women’s tennis. Conference Standings: Reagan 29, Southwest
Guilford 27, Glenn 22.5, Parkland 21.5, High Point Andrews 13, Carver 7.

South Piedmont 3-A: Marvin Ridge is in the top spot in the league on the
strength of first place finishes in men’s soccer and men’s cross country, as
well as a second place finish in women’s golf. Sun Valley is in second
place, thanks to a championship in women’s cross country and a fourth place
finish in men’s soccer. Hickory Ridge is not far behind in third place,
after taking the conference crown in volleyball and placing second in men’s
cross country. Conference Standings: Marvin Ridge 310, Sun Valley 225,

Triad 3-A: Conference crowns in women’s cross country and women’s tennis
propelled Western Guilford to the top spot in the conference at the end of
the fall season. Western Alamance is the runner-up with league titles in
men’s cross country and men’s soccer. Conference Standings: Western Guilford
37, Western Alamance 29, Rockingham County 28.5, Northeast Guilford 28,
Northern Guilford 24.5, Bartlett Yancey 24.5, Morehead 24, Dudley 12.5.

 Class 3-A/4-A Conference Results
Big South 3-A/4-A: Forestview is the leader after fall sports, winning
championships in men’s cross country and men’s soccer. Ashbrook is a close
second with league titles in women’s golf and women’s tennis. South Point
captured conference crowns in football and women’s cross country, securing
third place overall. Conference Standings: Forestview 75, Ashbrook 72.5,
South Point 68, East Gaston 63.5, Crest 53.5, North Gaston 44.5, Hunter Huss
43.

Coastal 3-A/4-A: J.H. Rose enjoyed a strong fall season in which the
Rampants won the conference championship in men’s soccer and women’s tennis
and tied for the title in volleyball. New Bern is right on Rose’s heels in
second place with a top finish in women’s golf. League titles in men’s and
women’s cross country put West Carteret in third place. Conference
Standings: J.H. Rose 80, New Bern 74, West Carteret 70.5, Havelock 65.5,
Washington 61.5, South Central 61, D.H. Conley 60.5, West Craven 41.

Mideastern 3-A/4-A: Hoggard dominated the conference this fall, capturing
league championships in football, volleyball, women’s tennis, and men’s and
women’s cross country. New Hanover is the runner-up after placing second in
both football and women’s tennis. Conference Standings: Hoggard 45, New
Hanover 33, Jacksonville 28, Ashley 26.5, Laney 22.5, White Oak 22.5, West
Brunswick 17.5.

Queen City 3-A/4-A: Charlotte Catholic is out in front after sweeping league
crowns in football, men’s soccer, volleyball, women’s tennis, men’s and
women’s cross country, and women’s golf. Olympic is in second place thanks
to runner-up finishes in women’s cross country, football, and men’s soccer.
Conference Standings: Charlotte Catholic 49, Olympic 37, West Mecklenburg
30, Harding 16, Berry Academy 12, Garinger 12, Waddell 9.

Class 4-A Conference Results
CAP Seven 4-A: Broughton has enjoyed a tremendous fall season, winning
championships in volleyball, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross
country, and men’s soccer. Leesville Road finished tied for second place in
men’s cross country, women’s tennis, and football, moving the Pride to a
second place spot in the conference race. Conference Standings: Broughton
42.5, Leesville Road 30, Wakefield 28, Enloe 26.5 Millbrook 25.5, Wake
Forest-Rolesville 23, Sanderson 19.5.

Central Piedmont 4-A: Mount Tabor dominated the conference this fall,
winning championships in volleyball, women’s tennis, football, men’s and
women’s cross country, and women’s golf. R.J. Reynolds is the runner-up in
the conference, paced by a men’s soccer title. Conference Standings: Mount
Tabor 340, R.J. Reynolds 300, West Forsyth 260, Davie 255, North Davidson
215, North Forsyth 180.

Greater Neuse River 4-A: Clayton is the conference leader after winning a
title in women’s golf, finishing tied for first place in women’s tennis, and
placing second in men’s soccer. Holly Springs and West Johnston are in a
second place deadlock. Holly Springs tied for first place in volleyball and
women’s tennis while West Johnston captured conference titles in men’s and
women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Clayton 75.5, Holly Springs
69.5 and West Johnston 69.5 each, Garner 68.5, Smithfield-Selma 67,
Southeast Raleigh 61, Knightdale 56.5, East Wake 51.5.

MECA 4-A: Top finishes in women’s cross country, women’s tennis, and a tie
for first in volleyball propelled North Mecklenburg to the top spot in the
conference. Hopewell is in second place after a first-place finish in
volleyball. A men’s soccer title helped put Jay M. Robinson third in the
league. Conference Standings: North Mecklenburg 34.5, Hopewell 33, Jay M.
Robinson 32.5, Mallard Creek 23.5, Vance 15.5, Central Cabarrus 14.5, West
Charlotte 14.5.

Metro 4-A: Northwest Guilford ended the fall season as the conference leader
after capturing league titles in volleyball, men’s soccer, and men’s and
women’s cross country. Page is the conference runner-up, tying for first
place in women’s tennis and recording second- place finishes in football,
men’s soccer, volleyball, and women’s cross country. Grimsley is not far
behind in third, thanks to a championship in women’s golf, a share of first
in women’s tennis, and third place finishes for their men’s and women’s

Mid-Southeastern 4-A: Conference crowns in football, women’s tennis, and
men’s cross country lifted Jack Britt in first place in the league.
Pinecrest is second place after ending the fall with league titles in men’s
soccer, women’s golf, and women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Jack
Britt 50, Pinecrest 48, Richmond 34, Scotland 30.5, Seventy First 28.5, Hoke
25, Douglas Byrd 17, Westover 16.

Northwestern 4-A: A strong fall season for A.C. Reynolds has the Rockets in
first place in the conference after winning league championships in
football, women’s golf, men’s soccer, and women’s tennis. Watauga is not far
behind in second place, after capturing men’s and women’s cross country
titles, as well as sharing the top spot in volleyball. Alexander Central is
in third place, with a share of first in volleyball and a fourth place
finish in men’s soccer. Conference Standings: A.C. Reynolds 43, Watauga
41.5, Alexander Central 28, South Caldwell 25.5, Freedom 22, East Burke 21,
McDowell 15.

PAC-6 4-A: Chapel Hill is the conference leader, thanks to a championship in
men’s cross country and second place finishes in women’s cross country,
field hockey, football, men’s soccer, and women’s tennis. East Chapel Hill
is five points back in second place after finishing first in women’s cross
country, field hockey, and women’s tennis. A conference title in men’s
soccer elevated Jordan into third place at the end of the fall season.

Southwestern 4-A: Myers Park holds the top spot in the league thanks to
conference championships in women’s tennis, men’s soccer, and men’s and
women’s cross country. Providence is in second in the conference after
runner-up finishes in women’s tennis and women’s cross country. Conference
Standings: Myers Park 48, Providence 40, Ardrey Kell 36, Butler 33.5,

Tri-8 4-A: Green Hope is in the lead in the conference after recording top
finishes in women’s tennis along with men’s and women’s cross country.
Athens Drive is right on its heels after finishing as the league champion in
women’s golf. Apex is in third place thanks to a league championship in
volleyball. Conference Standings: Green Hope 45, Athens Drive 44, Apex 42.5,
Middle Creek 28.5, Panther Creek 27, Fuquay-Varina 26, Cary 25, Lee County
12.5.

Two Rivers 4-A: The conference leader is Terry Sanford, which captured
league championships in men’s soccer, volleyball, women’s tennis, and
women’s cross country. South View is in the number-two spot in the league
overall after winning titles in football and men’s cross country. Conference
Standings: Terry Sanford 37.5, South View 32, Cape Fear 25.5, Lumberton
