Wells Fargo Cup NCHSAA standings after fall sports season

The N.C. High School Athletic Association announced the Wells Fargo Cup standings for fall sports in the Wells Fargo Cup competitions for the 2012-13 academic year.

The standings are based on a points system that stems from postseason success.

Green Hope leads the 4A standings, Cardinal Gibbons leads the 3A standings and Carrboro leads in 2A. All three of those Triangle schools won the Wells Fargo Cup for their classifications last season.

Leading 1A is Lake Norman Charter. The top Triangle-area school is Franklin Academy (5th).

Below is the top 15 for each classification.

Bayley Coleman-Cox becomes leading scorer in Jordan girls' basketball history

Senior Bayley Coleman-Cox is the all-time leading scorer in Jordan High School girls' basketball history, and she'll be recognized as such during halftime of the boys' varsity game against East Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

Ravenscroft announced today that it has hired Dena Floyd as its girls' soccer coach.

Big games await for N&O's Triangle top 15 basketball teams

Hopefully you've all had a chance to catch the first N&O boys' and girls' basketball rankings of the season.

If not, you can see the Triangle Top 15 by clicking here. They debuted in Thursday's newspaper.

As it turns out, these next few days are going to have some big games How about No. 1 vs No. 3 and No. 2 vs No. 4 in girls' basketball this Friday? Or the seven ranked-versus-ranked games upcoming in boys' basketball?

Former Panther Creek player Isaiah Johnson commits to Kansas football

Former Panther Creek football player Isaiah Johnson (class of 2011) has committed to play at the University of Kansas next fall. Johnson is a starting safety for Iowa Western Community College, which won the National Junior College Athletic Association championship this year.

NCHSAA Wells Fargo Conference Cup standings after fall sports season

The N.C. High School Athletic Association today announced updated standings in the Wells Fargo Conference Cup competitions through the 2012 fall sports season.

Each conference cup is awarded based on participation and standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method of awarding points.

Below, we list the standings from conference that contains Triangle-area teams.

Raleigh Grace Christian's Mike Taylor tops 1,000 points

Raleigh Grace Christian senior guard Michael Taylor topped the 1,000-point mark for his career Friday night. 
 
Taylor is currently averaging 20.6 points per game and, according to Eagles coach John Green, is on track to finish the season as the school's all-time leading scorer.

Panther Creek hosting Toys for Tots this week

Panther Creek High School will be supporting the Toys for Tots charity for this week's home basketball games, on Tuesday against Apex in boys' competition and on Friday against Fuquay-Varina in girls' action.
 
Patrons who bring in a new toy - in its original packaging - will allow patrons to enter the games at half-price admission ($2.50). Collection boxes will be at the entrance to the game. The school asks that the toys not be wrapped in wrapping paper.
 
Toys for Tots, a program ran by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, delivers toys to children whose parents cannot afford them.
