Millbrook remains on top of N&O rankings

Bookmark and Share

Leesville Road came very close to jumping from No. 3 in the weekend News & Observer high school football poll to the top spot. Leesville has been most impressive recently. The 6-0 Pride has not allowed a touchdown in its last four games.

No. 1 Millbrook struggled to a 35-33 win over Broughton. But instead of dropping Millbrook, I decided to stick Broughton in at No. 12. The Caps are 4-2, including a 28-24 loss to Apex. One way to look at it is that Broughton's two losses were by a total of six points. The other way to look, though, is that Broughton loss to an Apex team that was out-scored 61-7 by Wake Forest-Rolesville and Millbrook.

Broughton's appearance helps the Cap Seven 4-A keep its dominance in the ranking. Not only are Millbrook, Wake Forest-Rolesville and Leesville Road slotted at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, but Wakefield and Broughton are Nos. 11 and 12. Five of the league's teams are ranked and all seven have been ranked at some time during the season.

The other teams that contend for the top spot are Harnett Central and West Johnston.
