Mickayla Sanders breaks Cary Academy scoring record, top five in Wake County history

Cary Academy senior Mickayla Sanders broke the school record for points in a career this past season. Sanders ended with 2,423 points, higher than any Wake County player on record, aside from Kristen Gaffney.

Sanders' record tops Brittany Blackwell's career total of 2,087. Sanders also broke Cary Academy records for most 3-pointers and free throws made in a career. She also broke the season records in both.

Wake County four-year varsity scoring records for girls' basketball (on record):
1. Kristen Gaffney, Green Hope: 2,688
2. Mickayla Sanders, Cary Academy: 2,423
3. Dakota Dukes, Cary Christian: 2,373 (2,817 in five-year varsity career)
4. Karen Clayton, Broughton: 2,343
5. Lisa Squirewell, Wake Forest-Rolesville: 2,168
