Scotty McCreery missed his junior baseball season while he was off winning "American Idol" but he'll get to display some of his skills swinging a bat on Saturday, June 11 when he is scheduled to play in the Country Music Awards Music Festival's Celebrity Softball Challenge in Nashville, Tenn.
McCreery, who was a baseball pitcher, is on the roster for the Grand Ole Opry team for the celebrity game. Proceeds go to City of Hope, a charity that supports medical research for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
Also on the Grand Ole Opry squad is former University of North Carolina linebacker Chase Rice of "Survivor" fame, who is now a country music artist; country music star Vince Gill and Tennessee Titans quarterback Kerry Collins.
Lauren Alaina, who reached the finals of Idol, is on the other team, The AfterMidnight with Blair Garner club.

Wed, 06/08/2011 - 13:24 — hilda77Dear "REALLY":
We WANT to hear "every little thing that Scotty does". We are having Scotty-withdrawal symptoms right now, since American Idol went off the air!
Please do not discourage the N&O from printing all the PICTURES, articles, and trivia that it can get it's hands on in regard to Scotty from Garner North Carolina. If you don't want to read about him, don't. We have a WORLD of bad news all around us 24/7, please don't take this ALL AMERICAN GUY with his AMERICAN DREAM story away from us.
It makes me happy. Thanks.
