Knightdale's Brian Denton wins 4-A East golf regional

Knightdale's Brian Denton shot a 72 to be the medalist Monday in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A boys golf East Regional at Gates Four Country Club in Fayetteville.

Denton, Smithfield-Selma's Patrick Sawrey (73) and Holly Springs' Grant Howser (76) will advance to the NCHSAA state championships next week as individuals.

Southern Pines Pinecrest won the team title by one shot over Clayton, 301 to 302. Fayetteville Britt was third with a 307.
