Joe Kilby is a first-year head coach at Cedar Ridge High, but he has lots of experience.
He has been an assistant at Leesville Road in Raleigh for the past two years, but has 10 years as a college assistant and five years as an assistant in tradition-rich Texas high school football.
He replaces Lou Geary, who is now the Person High coach in Roxboro.
Kilby is a native of Sarnia, Ontario and a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario. He has been an assistant coach in college for 10 years and was a high school assistant in Texas for five years.
“I’ve always wanted to be a coach," Kilby said. "My father was a high school coach. When I was young and adventurous, I moved around and learned as much as I could. I’m looking forward to coaching my team.”
He wants to run a option-oriented spread offense and plans to have an aggressive defense.
He said his first task is assembling a coaching staff.
