John Wall not planning to enter 2009 NBA draft

Bookmark and Share

Raleigh Word of God point guard John Wall told USA Today that he does not plan to enter the 2009 NBA basketball draft.

Wall said Wednesday that he never planned to file paperwork with
the NBA this year.

"I was kind of shocked," he said of ESPN reports that he was contemplating entering the draft.

"I've never
considered it, never thought about it. You don't have to worry about me
not going to college. I promised my mom and my dad, before he died,
that I wouldn't go from high school to the NBA."

There are questions about whether Wall is eligible for the draft because he is a fifth year senior in high school.

Wall is in New York for the Jordan Brand Classic All-American Game and could not be reached for comment.

Wall is believed to be seriously considering scholarship offers from Kentucky, Duke, Baylor, Memphis, Miami (Fla.), Kansas, N.C. State and Florida.

UNC OUT OF THE PICTURE?

Are you kidding? National Champs, most viewed on televsion, most popular team in the US, and most importantly the only coaching staff in the NCAA that can develop this kid for the next level. Dook, Cantucky, or even underacheiving Memphis can't hold a light to the UNC program for a kid desiring to go to the NBA. It's a no-brainer if Wall wants to play for a college team. He'll pick UNC just like any able bodied intelligent human would!!!!! Continue the DOMINANCE....Go HEELS!!!

His Decision, In Due Time

I'm a family friend of John's family and classmates and really close friends with his sister. John has had interest in certain colleges, but hasn't made a decision yet. and he has stated once he does make a decision he isnt going to tell someone until he is good and ready. i dont think it is any of you all place to make a decision on rather he is ready to go or not you need to let that be HIS DECISION and the draft's decision. Yes he is a 5-year senior but that has nothing to do with his playing abilities. I think people shouldnt keep putting so much pressure on him, and let him let us know when he feels the time is right !

Stop talking about NBA

I've seen Wall play several times against top notch high school competition and one thing for sure is ..HE IS NOT READY FOR THE NBA! He would be best served to do one year maybe two depending on development before even considering going to the NBA.

need a PG

with 1 true pg on the roster next year.....and Drew is undersized and has no shot...... i sure hope ol Roy Boy....can pull off an 11th hour miracle even if it's 1 and done....

this next team with alot of front court players NEEDS A PG that is not a back up at best....like Drew.

UNC out of the picture?

I heard reports as recently as the last few days indicating that Wall was considering UNC in addition to the rest on you list. Has something changed since then?

I would bet he goes to Dook.

I would bet he goes to Dook. It wouldn't be out of the realm to see him go to Kentucky or Florida though...
