Holly Springs softball coach Jill Minchik said that her team will likely finish out the rest of its regular-season home schedule at Holly Grove Middle School, adjacent to the high school (and seen in the background of this photo taken of the damaged field).
The Golden Hawks' outfield fence was broken and collapsed following the tornado that touched down near in area two weekends ago.
"It's taken a toll on the seniors because they want to have their senior night at home," junior pitcher Erica Nunn said. "We underclassmen are going to try to make them feel at home and make their senior night special, but it's just one of those things that happens and you just can't control it."
The hope is to have the outfield fence replaced before the Golden Hawks host a first-round playoff game in the second week of May.
Damage was also done to the top of the dugouts and the batting cage. The tennis courts at the school also had a part of its fence bent backwards, but the facility was still playable.
The school's upgrades at the softball facility have made the damage even harder to deal with for players.
"It's affected us because we've worked so hard on that field. This year we put up hitting stations, we fixed up the batting cage, we put up bullpens," Nunn said. "When I heard about it, I almost cried."
