Holly Springs, Athens Drive vie in baseball

Bookmark and Share

Holly Springs is in position to win the Tri-Nine 4-A baseball regular season. J. Mike Blake of the Cary News takes a look at the playoff race.

Not surprisingly, we've got the teams with the two best pitching staffs
in first and second. Holly Springs can win the Tri-Nine title outright
if they win out, but Athens can earn at least a share of the title with
a season-finale win this Friday between the two.

Middle Creek and Green Hope seem to be settling into the three and
four spots (although Middle Creek can still earn a tie for second with
two wins and two Athens losses). Green Hope has been red-hot as of late
(won six of last seven Tri-Nine games) and will finish its season
Tuesday against Holly Springs.

We've got three .500 teams tied for the fifth and final playoff spot
(although I believe a sixth team will get in as a wild card). Lee
County has the edge as they've swept Apex and have a 1-0 edge over
Fuquay-Varina.
