Durham Hillside High, led by University of North Carolina recruits Khris Francis and Korrin Wiggins, is the top-ranked area 4A football team in the ncpreps.com preseason poll.
The internet site publishes the North Carolina Prep Football News and polled high school football coaches throughout the state to its rankings.
Charlotte Butler and Charlotte Mallard Creek are Nos. 1 and 2 in the 4A poll with traditional power Richmond County in third. Fayetteville Britt and 2011 4A champ Scotland County, which both have new coaches, are Nos. 4 and 5 with 2011 4AA winner Greensboro Page at No. 6.
Porter Ridge and New Bern precede No. 9 Hillside.
The statewide poll expects a shift in the Greater Neuse 4A with Southeast Raleigh leading Garner, a 2011 4AA finalist, at Nos. 10 and 11.
Leesville Road is No. 14 and Wakefield is No. 16.
In 3A, Wilson Hunt is No. 12 and Cleveland is No. 13.
Hillside's Francis, Panther Creek offensive lineman Mike Sutton , Fuquay-Varina defensive back Garrett Suggs and Wake Forest-Rolesville kicker Petey Williams are on the ncpreps.com preseason all-state team.
Also on the preseason club are joined by Wilson Hunt defensive lineman Lewis Neal and Tarboro defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis.
