Freshman helps Pride pound Jordan

DURHAM – The Nyheim Hines Express has started for Leesville Road.
 
The freshman, playing most of the snaps so banged-up senior D.J. Hunt could rest a bit, carried 16 times for 214 yards and two touchdowns as the Pride walloped Jordan 39-6 in a non-conference 4-A battle Thursday night at Currie Stadium.
 
Leesville is 3-0 after three straight easy non-conference victories. PJordan fell to 1-2.
 
“We’re doing a very efficient job on offense, and we’ve got to continue getting better defensively every week and play hard-nosed football,” said Chad Smothers, in his first season as a head coach after spending six seasons as the Pride’s defensive coordinator. “Nyheim has been practicing well. D.J. got dinged last week, and when the score got out of hand there was no reason to play him.
 
“Jordan was very impressive on film, and we saw tons of athleticism out there.”
 
Austin Berrios rushed nine times for 70 yards and a touchdown for the Pride.
 
Joey Mangili had most of Jordan’s offense, completing 13 of 21 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.
