Ed Lane, one of the most successful football coaches ever at Cary High, helped build the foundation for the Imps’ nationally recognized wrestling program.
Lane, 81, died last weekend and leaves not only a legacy as a successful football, wrestling and track coach, but also as well elementry school administrator. He coached at the school from the 1957 through 1968.
Lane was a native of Perquimans County, near Hertford. He came to Cary as its head football coach and a teacher in 1957 and stayed in those positions until 1969 when he became principal at Henry Adams Elementary School in Cary.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, June 2 at 3 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Cary.
