Bookmark and Share

Matt Milner, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound football lineman from Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons, committed to East Carolina this week.

Milner played tight end and defensive end for his first three seasons at the parochial school, but is playing nose guard and tackle this season.

He bench presses more than 350 pounds.

He chose ECU over N.C. State, Wake Forest, Stanford and Colorado.

Gibbons coach Mike Sheehan said Milner is the best player he has ever coached.

"He has a great motor," Sheehan said. "He never slows down and goes full speed all of the time. He is a great leader and is president of our National Honor Society. He is a coach's dream."

Sheehan said Milner had an overall grade point average of about 5.0 with extra credit for advanced courses.

Milner is believed to be the 10th for Coach Skip Holtz in the Class of 2010. Eight of the commitments are from North Carolina.
