DeMarcus Cousins, a 6-foot-10 high school basketball senior, became John Calipari's first University of Kentucky recruit Tuesday night.
Kentucky is the third school where the Mobile (Ala.) LeFlore High McDonald's All-American has committed. He had committed to the University of Alabama-Birmingham, but later switched to Calipari's Memphis program.
Cousins had talked of completely opening his recruitment again, but decided to stick with Calipari.
Kentucky also is in the hunt for shooting guard Xavier Henry, who had signed with Memphis, and for Raleigh Word of God's John Wall, who is uncommitted.
Wall, Cousins and Henry are ranked as the Nos. 1, 2, and 3 players in the national by rivals.com, an internet recruiting site.
Cousins, Wall and Henry will play together this weekend in the Hoops Summitt in Oregon.
Wall also will play in the Jordan Brand Classic next week in New York City.
Dave Telep of scout.com, a recruiting web site, reports that Billy Donovan of the University of Florida has called Wall and University of North Carolina coach Roy Williams is expected to maintain contact.
