C.J. Leslie shines bright

C.J. Leslie was ridiculously good Saturday in Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge workouts at Cary Academy.

Leslie was an intimidating shot blocker and a strong rebounder despite his slight frame.

He hit a three-pointer and generally dunked any time he got the ball anywhere near the basket.

Once he took a long lob pass and slammed through a one-handed dunk behind his head.

Another time, he grabbed a rebound, dribbled the length of the floor through five defenders and finished with an overpowering dunk.

He definitely was something very special.

But he is not satisfied. He is very thin and said he is working in the weight room to get stronger.

"I know I need more strength," he said. "I need to get much stronger."

Leslie's Raleigh Word of God team lost to Charlotte United Faith in the N.C. Independent School Athletic Association 1-A final, but Leslie thinks Word of God will contend for the title again next year, even though all-America point guard John Wall graduated.

"We should be good," Leslie said. "I just hope we have as much fun as this year."
